Here is some information from the site:
July 22 - 26, 2014 :: Wayne State College. Wayne, NE.
Launch's JAM (Junior high And Middle school) Summer Leadership Workshop is for students entering grades 6-8, who are looking to become involved as student leaders, either in middle or high school.
Since 1997, JAM has equipped students with the skills they need to excel as a leader in their schools and communities. Students get to connect with other leaders from all across the state, so they can share ideas, learn what they do in their schools and work together to develop their own leadership skills. In addition to learning about leadership, we also have a little fun at Workshop. Traditional activities at past Workshops include Olympics, having a marshmallow shoot out, a pool party and a dance to cap the week off.
Each day, students work together to learn and apply a variety of leadership skills through activities that are led by the Launch Volunteer Staff. The JAM curriculum is built on the PIG paradigm, which stands for PERSONAL, INTERPERSONAL and GROUP.
Personal Leadership
Skills under this category have to do with things that you do for yourself as a leader. Good leaders know the importance of such things as personal goal setting, keeping a positive attitude, time management, and understanding their own values and ideals. At the JAMshop, we’ll emphasize how leaders need to take care of themselves in order to best help others.
Interpersonal Leadership
Here we’ll look at what leaders do in working one-on-one with other people. Effective leaders understand that each individual is different and that how they interact with individuals determines how successful they’ll be at leading a group. We’ll look at issues such as: active listening, interpersonal communication, giving and receiving feedback, and conflict resolution.
Group Leadership
This is not what most people think of when they think of leadership. Groups take on a life and personality of their own. Knowing how groups develop and function is crucial to being a good leader. We’ll explore group leadership as it relates to group roles, facilitating meetings, making decisions, and group dynamics.
Registration Cost
With an all-volunteer staff, we’re a total non-profit organization. We’re proud to keep our prices low enough to merely cover the hard costs of Workshop, making us one of the most affordable summer experiences in the region – and in our humble opinion, the best value.
We also have need-based scholarships available. Scholarship information is available on the Registration Form, and scholarship applications are due June 21st.
